The moment D... View MoreAfter a long month out on patrol, it was about time for Dusty to head back to Appleoosa to re-supply. While on his way back to the town, Dusty stops by the farm of Makabe, and his family. The moment Dusty pulls his steed up to the farmhouse's hitching post, little Johnny comes running out of the house to bombard the ranger with all sorts of questions. While he does his best to answer them with more than a "I didn't see much on patrol", the little zebra's parents exit the house. "Dusty!" The father begins. "It's been so long since we've seen you!" Little Johnny is then scooped up into the arms of his mother, who gives Dusty a warm smile. "We were just about to have dinner. Why don't you join us?" After a month of nothing but beans, dried meat, and hardtack, an actual meal sounds like heaven to Dusty. "Thank yah kindly Mrs. Zevanah. Ah'd love tah share ah meal with ya'll." Inside the little farmhouse, Dusty sits with the zebra family at a small dining table. While Johnny and his father set the table, Dusty helps Zevanah bring all the fixin's to it. There's baked potatoes, green beans, homemade biscuits, gravy, and coleslaw. Frankly, Dusty didn't much care for coleslaw, but by the look on Makabe's face when he brought it out, Dusty wouldn't need to worry about it going to waste. One the table is set, Zevanah brings out a plate stacked with tonight's main course. Chicken fried steak. Oh man. The smell alone brought Dusty way back. Chicken fried steak was one of his ol' pa's favorite foods, and they would always cook some together once a week. For a moment, Dusty nearly forgets to bow his head when Makabe begins to say a blessing to Solaris. Dinner itself goes by fairly quick, but in the end, there are hardly any leftovers. Dusty regales the family with a few stories from his time as a ranger while helping them clean up. Then, little Johnny is put to bed, and Dusty prepares to head out, into town. As Dusty climbs into his steed's saddle, Makabe strolls up beside him, and places a hand on the saddle. "Dusty. Be careful out there. There's been disturbing news coming from the town lately. People have been going missing, and the sheriff can't figure out why, or where they are. Zevanah was given some sort of tonic from that 'Granny Greengrass' woman, but she doesn't trust that it does what she was told it does. If you meet with her, please be wary." Dusty's answer is a nod, and a tip of his hat. Then, Dusty turns his steed, and heads away from the farmhouse, into Appleoosa proper. #rp
