View MoreNeither the mailman, nor Johnny came back to town after their route yesterday. Nobody knows where either of the two went, but when Dusty questioned some of the townsfolk, they claimed the two were headed for Marcutty manor last time anyone saw them. So, after saddling is mount, Dusty set out early this morning to go looking for the two. Along the road to Marcutty manor, Dusty surveys the landscape. To his left, the dunes of the San Palomino desert. To his right, an old, dried up creek that he remembers playing in as a kid. As he nears halfway to the manor, he spots a small rock formation by the creek. Looking closer, he can see... A trail of blood, leading into the creek. Solaris, please. Don't let him find what he thinks he will. Dusty hops off of his steed, and follows the trail into the creek. As his gaze slowly drifts downwards, he spots him. The mailman, unceremoniously dumped into the creek after being shot two times. As Dusty kneels by his body, he notices a marking on the mailman's back. Someone has carved a star into his back with a knife. Lone Star Bandits. Dread seeps into Dusty's thoughts, and bile rises up in his stomach. Please, Solaris. Tell me he's just hiding somewhere. Tell me he got away. Tell me he's okay. Dusty rises, and turns to head back down the creek, towards town. His gaze is fixated on the ground ahead of him. His feet trudge through the sand, while his eyes scour the creek for anything out of the ordinary. Something rests in the creek before him. Dusty's body begins to shake as his eyes send the information to his brain. Dusty kneels down, and scoops up little Johnny, cradling him close to his chest. Why, Solaris. Why?! WHY?! Hot tears stream down the ranger's face. A sorrow like he's never felt before washes over every fiber of his being. Not since the death if his father has he known such a feeling. Dusty clutches the little zebra tight to his chest, and pleads with Johnny to forgive him. He apologizes profusely for not being there to protect him. He apologizes for failing his duties as a ranger. He apologizes for not being the hero Johnny thought he was. Sorrow gives way to cold fury. The Ranger carries Johnny back to his steed, where he gently rests the boy. He secures Johnny to the back of his steed, then hops into the saddle. He knows what he has to do now, but... He's not sure he has the strength to do it. #rp
