At the head of the mob strides... View MoreBoots slosh through muddy water. A mob of townspeople trudges through the swamp they live in. Each carries a makeshift weapon, old rifle, or some other form of weaponry. At the head of the mob strides Ol Mad Bill, preaching fire, and damnation to the creature that dared to attack his beloved town. 20 feet ahead of the mob, Lord Amadeus Ridgewell marches alongside his hunting party. 9 of them are professional hunters, and retired soldiers from his estate. One is their local guide, whom the party has taken a liking to. The group is over a mile out from the town at this point. Far beyond being able to get help should something go wrong. Amadeus didn't like the idea of so many of the townsfolk coming with his party on their hunt, but if he didn't agree, they likely would have rioted. Though the party had managed to pick up a few clues as to the Cairex's whereabouts, they had yet to gather any concrete evidence. Though the lack of progress frustrated Amadeus, he knew better than to act on it. Just a little more time, and he's certain they'll finally track down the beast. Something large splashes up from the water in the middle of the mob. A man is grabbed in between a gaping, toothed maw. He screams as the beast thrashes about, knocking him into other townspeople, and injuring others with it's tail. "About face!" Amadeus commands, and his hunting party quickly turns to face the mob. "Present!" The party lowers their rifles to prepare to fire. Amadeus raises his saber, but keeps it raised. There are too many townspeople around the Cairex to shoot at it. One townsperson discharges a double barrel shotgun. What buckshot strikes the beast does little to it. The stray buckshot however, injures 4 more townspeople. The mob begins to panic, and attempts to flee, as Ol Mad Bill screams his fury at the beast. He bludgeons the beast's torso with a sledgehammer for a few moments before it grabs hold of his lower torso with it's jaws. Ol Mad Bill screams in panic, and agony as the beast mangles, and tears his body. He begs Amadeus to kill the beast. A shot rings out from Amadeus' party. It strikes the beast's torso, but appears to do little. "Hold fire!" Amadeus commands. It would appear that the guide had fired in an attempt to save Bill. It was still too risky. There were too many townspeople still too close to the beast. As Bill's screams slowly die out, Amadeus sees an opening. With a flash of his saber, the command is given. "Fire!" In unison, the party's rifles crack. Most shots hit their mark, but some miss, and splash into the muddy water. The beast roars as it drops the shredded remains of Bill into the water. It then turns, and begins to make it's way towards the party. By now, they have reloaded. "Fire!" The command comes again, and is answered with the crack of rifles in unison. The beast momentarily halts as a lucky shot pierces one of it's eyes. It roars once more before hastening it's charge. "Retreat!" The party turns, and begins a run towards the north. The Cairex follows behind. Good. They'd suffered more injuries than Amadeus had hoped, but everything was going to plan. The party just needed to get a quarter of a mile out before the beast caught them. Monarchs, let our hooves be swift. #rp
