All at a uniform distance of course. Stood near the back of the hall, guard Wattzis Buckets quietly speculates what this meeting could be about with his comrades, Wild Fire, and Nar Kazunah. "Heard a rumor that a member of the royal family was making a trip down south soon. Might be setting up security for their trip through here." Wild Fire muses. Wattzis seems to agree. "Seems the most likely. I doubt the captain would call all of us here for something unimportant." Nar listens in, but does not speak. He doesn't really pay attention to that kind of crap. He's more of an "in the moment" kinda guy.
All murmuring in the hall falls silent as Captain Tower Shield, and Lieutenants Spell Sword, and Gallant Lance approach the podium at the front of the hall. Spell Sword being the current head of the Ponyville Guard Mage detachment, and Gallant Lance being the head of the non-magical guards. Everyone stands/sits up at attention as the captain begins to speak.
"Good morning everyone!" His voice carries at the perfect volume throughout the hall. Just as clear to the guards at the back as it is to the ones in the very front. "I know many of you have patrols to get to today, so I'll keep this brief. As many of you may know, the Equestrian Guard Games are coming up quite soon. As such, we will be selecting guards to represent us in the games within the next few days. There will be two teams for the games. Our magic team, lead by Lieutenant Spell Sword, and our non-magical team, lead by Lieutenant Gallant Lance. Throughout the next 3 days, we will be conducting inspections to find the best candidates to represent us in the games. This means there will be 4 mages, and 4 martial guards chosen for their respective teams. As per usual, you are permitted to opt out of participating in the guard games. Written opt outs must be provided within a week from now."
For once in the time that Wattzis has known Nar, the man is actively listening during a meeting. The captain gives a brief explanation of the games for those who are unaware. It's a two week long competition between the guards of each settlement in Equestria. With the non-magical guards competing in the first week, and the mages competing in the second. The games will consist of a challenge each day, followed by duels afterwards. Each team will earn points based on what position they place in challenges, and their duel wins. At the end of the two weeks, the score from both teams will be totaled, and the settlement with the highest points is crowned the winner. It's much less about proving superiority, and more about showcasing the prowess of the guards to help the populace feel safe, and in good hands.
After the meeting has dismissed, Wattzis, and his two comrades head to the mess hall for some breakfast before their patrols for the day. Wattzis is fairly certain he's not going to be chosen for the mages team for the games. Wild Fire tries to cheer him up by saying otherwise, but Nar, blunt as always, shuts him down. "Watty's got heart, yeah, but he still doesn't have great control over his lightning magic. They're gonna want mages with good control, power, and battle IQ. Gotta be able to think quick, and act quicker." Wattzis does not seem upset by this. In fact, he completely agrees. Which scares him, because those ARE the criteria the captain will be looking for, and Nar fits them fairly well. With the way Nar treats fights here, Wattzis is afraid Nar is going to give the Ponyville guard a reputation for brutality if the captain chooses him. Might be best to bring it up to Lieutenant Spell Sword after patrol today. #rp
