He had been born in medieval century Earth to a poor farmer family, they didn't have much but they had each other and that was enough. At the time, Knight Wolf was called Joshua Lycan a young farm boy at 13 years old. He had an older brother brother Gabriel who was soon to be celebrated a man at age 16 and a younger sister Emily who was 8 years old and very cheerful. His mother Elizabeth  and father Henry were often working the fields, tending the cattle and working very hard to keep their lives plentiful, but these days are dangerous, many monsters lurked everywhere, vampires had recently been discovered and they have swept through the lands killing and transforming others but they were not the only threat, ghouls, golems, creatures of hell and darkness attacked where ever possible and not many had the ability to fight or at least not many were allowed to.
The nobles of the kingdoms were a very greedy bunch, crooked and as merciful as the monsters only they were allowed to fight. One would think that the people the locals ruled over would be grateful to the nobles who risked their lives to protect them, if only that were the case, often the nobles meals or tea times or any of their activities could not be interrupted for the simple fact of monsters attacking commoners, consequently they often arrived too late to save any single life. To safe face often nobles would force all the news tellers to tell lies about how the nobles arrived quickly and fought bravely but was alas unable to fight off such a huge horde of monsters and was barely able to save their own lives, then would often invite friends of noble class to make a game of hunting whatever creature had attacked.
Farmers were of the lowest class, though they made all the food for the kingdoms and lands the nobles were in charge of, they were often placed outside of cities, outside of the safety of walls and guards due to the size of land they had to tend to. It has been requested to build walls or station centuries for their protection, but the pleas fell on ears of inconsiderate nobles and kings, which meant that the people who were attacked the most, were the farmers.
Joshua was outside tending the land with his father, his brother Gabriel was in the city serving as an apprentice blacksmith and his mother and sister would be inside preparing the next meal. It is almost evening so everyone would soon be together on the dinner table.
"Henry, Joshua! Hurry and wash up, supper is almost ready and Gabriel will return soon, and if you are all not together here soon I'll feed your portions to the pigs!" Elizabeth yells through the window, earning a hearty laugh from Henry and a smile from Joshua. Gabriel was then seen running up to them smiling and laughing having heard his mother, "You guys better hurry up or she really will do it, again," he says as they all begin moving to the small cottage together.
Having washed up and said grace, the family enjoys their meal together, "So how was work Gabriel, have you made a proper sword and shield yet?" Their father asks as he sips his tea.
"Not yet sir, but soon I will, Miguel has said my work is getting better everyday and thinks once I'm ready he can retire," Gabriel says making his dad laugh, "that old geezer will never retire, he had the choice when his son became a full fledged blacksmith but he enjoys the trade too much," his father replies, then in a softer but more serious tone, "and what of your lessons with the sword," he asks.
"Better sir," Gabriel begins," I have mastered the parry and can now teach Joshua," he said sternly but quietly. "Good," his father says ,"you shall practice with him for an hour tonight while I finish our chores then I will join you, be prepared my sons, the nobles will never come to our aid, we must defend our own and what is ours," he says sagely.
"Yes father," both boys say, "Yes papa ," Emily chirps up as she attempts to clean her face with a napkin and was failing adorably bad, "Haha! Yes you too my little sunflower," Henry says while Elizabeth helps her daughter clean herself ,"Yes you too my love but only when you are older, and you boys do your best to avoid injury, if I have to stitch up more cuts and mend more broken bones help me God I will pick up my broom and teach you all a lesson," she says staring intently at her husband who could only sweat slightly, "Of course dear."
It is now late into the night, the three men of the family are in the forest practicing and honing their skills with the sword, Joshua had learned the parry rather easily, he was the pride of the his father and brother.
"Remember my sons," Henry begins, "We learn these skills not so we can look for fights but to defend what is ours. Now, if we are attacked what do we do?" he asks his sons having drilled the answers into them and asking them every night to make sure they remember it.
"If it attacks the cattle, then father and I will attack it and kill it together," Gabriel says first as his father looked at him then turns to Joshua for his answer, "And i will be with mother and sister and defend them in case anything happens," he says earning a nod from his father.
"What do we do if there are too many to defend the cattle?' he asks next and Gabriel answers ," We abandon them and defend our home," Henry nods ,"And if i am felled in battle?" he asks, and Gabriel answers "I am to take Joshua, Emily and mother and escape."
"Good, now if I am felled and the monster mimics my voice asking you for help, what do you do," he asks, and both answer ," we keep running."
"Joshua," Henry turns to him," if your brother is slain, what do you do?" he asks him and Joshua answers, "I will take Emily and mother and escape and if the monster mimics my brother I am to abandon him no matter how pleading the voice is," he answers determined.
"Good, remember my sons, our most precious treasures are the women in our lives, you are men, it is your duty to risk life and limb to ensure your mother and sister can see the sun every day, honor yourselves and your family by being strong and defend them, show your commitment and follow through with your tasks no matter how painful, and stick your chest out and show courage, if you know you are to die then your priority is to save your mom and sister, once they are safe you face your death with no fear and with unyielding tenacity, and if you can, you take as many as those monsters with you."
The days pass and a time for celebration has come, Gabriel is now 16 years old and is to be celebrated as a man, all are invited to come, mostly men who are there to allow Gabriel his first drink into adulthood, it is an honorable event. Of course the nobles are invited but they prefer to not waste time with commoners.
The day begins with breakfast where Gabriel is served first, he says grace as the man of the family for protection for his family, and has the first bite.
Then his father and a few other men from their family from all over the kingdom come and take Gabriel out hunting, giving him lessons on the hunt as well as lessons in life, once they trap an animal whether it is shot with an arrow and is still alive or simply captured in a trap, Gabriel will be the one to give the finishing blow.
Afterwards the game is brought home and Gabriel is honored for bringing food to his family's table as a man. Then the festivities will continue and at night he will take his first drink and allowed into the men's circle of his family, thought they are all just farmers, it is still a honor to be a part of.
It is now late into the night and the men pour their drinks from a special bottle that is bought on the day the child was born and is opened only when his is of age, the men circle Gabriel and the eldest of them pours his drink, "To Gabriel, may God watch over him and his." he says and they all drink.
Joshua is happy for Gabriel, and he is excited for himself, in just three years it will be his turn, in just three years.
A scream is heard from around the house and all eyes turn towards the source, a young woman runs from around the corner and is followed by a young man from the city both looking terrified, it isn't until long claws are seen bursting through his chest that they see why. Behind him is a monster of the night, a creature with no face just a mouth with long sharp teeth, it is tall and skinny, it looks like a human body that has no muscle just skeleton with unnaturally long limbs, a windigo.
"Windigooo!" All men of the Lycan family run towards their wives and family who all run towards their carriages or horses where they have weapons. The lycans may be farmers but they are fighters and will prove so without a doubt. They know a windigo's weakness is fire, so they cover their swords with alcohol or oil and set them ablaze, the closest men kill the windigo they see quickly before it harms anyone by cutting off its head allowing the fire from the sword to spread, it does not die quietly however, it lets out a monstrous yell before bursting into flame, windigos are very flammable.
It becomes eerily quiet, then a few sounds are heard from the darkness.
"There are more in the fields!" One of them yells as another throws a lantern that bursts open revealing a horde of windigos, the flames anger them and they all let out monstrous calls and charge forward jumping over the flames or simply going around.
"The eldest of the Lycan family raises his sword that is set ablaze, Lycan family battle to the death!" he roars as the others yell out their battle cries and charge forward, one army clashing into another. Blood is spilled, body parts are thrown apart as they clash, many die quickly, the windigos also die but not as quickly as the flames consume them and their kind.
The women and younger men already know what to do, like Joshua they have all been drilled on what to do, they all head to the only cottage available, they board up the walls and widows, and barricade themselves inside, the women to the rear and the young men in front with their swords at the ready, the can see the battle raging outside, fire and blood mixing, screams of pain and anger. Joshua looks outside, he sees his father wounded, his arm is limp and there is blood running down his face, there are not many men left but the same is true of the windigos, Henry cuts down another beast but not before it slashes its long claws across his body making huge amounts of blood to fall from him, both Gabriel and Joshua see this, their father falls to his knees and before him stands another windigo, behind it blazes the fields they own making it look like an inferno.
Henry looks up at the beast as it approaches him, he turns and see his sons, one fighting of a beast trying to get to him and another watching from the cottage, "C'mon Henry," he says to himself ,"don't you dare look so pathetically in front of your sons." The windigo raises its claws but Henry quickly parries it, he stands quickly ignoring the pain, the windigo strikes again with its other claw but it is cut off by Henry's sword, it roars in pain, it then tries again with its other claw which he was ready to counter, but the blood loss made him woozy and his vision blurred. The next thing he was able to see was the monsters claws penetrating his body, he looked up and could see the beast open its mouth wide about the bite his head. As soon as it tries he moves his head to the side and it bites on to his shoulder. Both his sons are yelling for him, Gabriel still fighting trying to reach him and Joshua screaming from the cottage. Henry then smiles, "My sons, witness your fathers courage," he whispers as he then brings up his sword and stabs through the monster, it is not on fire so the windingo ignores it until it realizes too late what was happen.
Henry roars loud as he lifts the the windigo as high as he could and he charges forward, he then remembers everything, proposing to his wife, having his children, his family meals, his families smiles, his roar is heard everywhere as he jumps directly into the fire at which the windigo lets him goes in an attempt to flee but Henry with his sword still piercing it pushes and slams the windigo into the floor using the sword to keep it from moving.
"Yes... this should be enough.." he says as the flames consume him.
