There are al... View MoreOut in the San Palomino desert, it gets pretty cold at night. While some may attempt to brave the cold in order to get just a bit farther in their travels, it usually isn't the best idea. There are all sorts of creatures, and critters out in the desert, and at night, they usually saw you before you saw them. So, tonight, Dusty and his travel companions have made themselves a campfire, and have huddled around it while they make dinner. While Makabe, and Mist work to prepare dinner, little Johnny huddles underneath a blanket with his mother. Dusty tends to the fire to make sure it stays burning. Above the fire rests a pot with tonight's stew cooking inside. As he adds another ingredient to the stew, Mist looks to Dusty. "So, Ranger. That guitar you care with you just for show?" Dusty responds by shaking his head. "No sir. Ah ain't too shabby with a guitar if ah say so mahself." At this point, he's already pulled the guitar off of his back. "Oh yeah? Why don't you play a song for us? Know any Johnny Bond?" Mist points the knife in his hand at Dusty, and raises an eyebrow. "Sure do. Can't sing worth a darn though. Only pipes ah got is as nice on the ears as a steam whistle." "Not gonna matter out here Ranger boy. Ain't nobody out here to here your sorry singing." "Ah s'pose yer right there." While Dusty begins to play "Stars of the Midnight Range", and do his best to sing along, Zevana points out various stars in the sky to her son. "Do you see the bright one, all on it's own there, Johnny?" The boy nods. "That's the North Star. If you follow it, it will always lead you north. A long time ago, travelers used it to help guide them." "You mean, like a compass?" "Yes! Just like we use a compass to tell us what direction we're going, travelers in the past used the North Star to orient themselves." After finishing his song, Dusty decides to add to the little celestial tidbits Zevana was giving Johnny. "Say, Johnny. See how the moon's full tonight?" Dusty sees Johnny's little head poke out from the blanket he's sharing with his mother in order for him to look up at the moon. "Yeah?" "When the moon's full, that means the king is watching over us. He makes sure we don't have any bad dreams, and that we get a good night's sleep." Johnny's eyes appear to twinkle for a moment. "You mean, he's watching us right now?" Dusty nods. "Sure is." At this, Johnny waves to the moon. "Thank you Mr. Artemis!" "Now Johnny. You know how to thank the king properly, don't you?" Johnny's head tilts. "What do you mean?" Dusty grunts as he pushes himself up into a kneeling position. He then bows his head, and genuflects towards the moon. "Thank you, your majesty." He lifts his head to watch as Johnny scuttles out from under his mother's blanket to mimic Dusty. "Thank you Mr. your majesty!" Eh. Close enough. If the king were here, he'd probably accept that. Right? #rp
