Man, he couldn't wait to sleep in his bed, and get a nice cold dri... View MoreAfter almost 2 months of traveling, Dusty was glad it was almost over. Just a few more days of travel, and he'd be back in Appaloosa. Man, he couldn't wait to sleep in his bed, and get a nice cold drink at the saloon. Tonight, the group has gone to bed early. While Makabe and his family are in their tent, Dusty and Mist have decided to set their bedrolls outside tonight. The stars were just too pretty tonight for them to pitch a tent. After a decent meal, the group went to bed long before the moon had reached its peak. Dusty's ears perks before he's fully awake to tell why. As he groggily comes to, he notes that it's likely before midnight. For a moment, he wonders why his body has woken itself up, but a distinct sound gives him the answer. In the distance, Dusty hears a lone, high pitched howl, which is soon answered by another. Two becomes four, then 8, and quickly, dozens. Dusty scrambles to his feet, grabbing his rifle as he does so. "Everybody up! Now!" Mist groans, and begins to question, but is cut off by the sound of Dusty firing his rifle. "Coyotes! They're surrounding us!" Dusty turns his head to shout as Zevana sticks her head out of the tent. "Get in the wagon! Yer as good as dead out here!" In an instant, Mist is up, with his handgun drawn. Makabe and his family hurry into their wagon, while Dusty, and Mist stand back to back with their weapons aimed into the darkness beyond. Dusty spots a pair of eyes in the darkness, and fires off another shot with his revolver. It's answered with a yelp, followed by the eyes disappearing. Then, Mist fires off a few shots. More eyes emerge from the darkness, closing in fast. Dusty fires one more shot from his rifle, then pulls his revolver. He manages to hit two coyotes before a third one lunges at him. He reacts by swinging his rifle like a club, smacking it to the side. He then fires a shot into it's head before turning to shoot another. Another figure manages to dart past Dusty as it leaps up into the wagon. Dusty fires a shot as it leaps, but misses, and the shot digs into the sand. There's a loud BANG from within the wagon, accompanied by a few dozen tiny holes appearing in the wagon's canvas. A second later an injured coyote tumbles out of the wagon. It falls to the sand, and begins to cry out, only to be silenced by Makabe with a double barrelled shotgun. Dusty fires off the last bullet in his revolver into a coyote trying to get around him. He quickly holsters his revolver, and raises his rifle, but finds no targets. Just as quickly as they had come, the pack of coyotes had retreated. Once they're sure the coyotes are gone, the group inspects their campsite. Seems they killed about 6 coyotes, but Mist took a bite to the leg. "Ah figured somethin' like this would happen eventually. Ain't safe fer us tah stay here. We're gonna have tah get a move on, and set up camp again later." Dusty sighs. "We need tah get tah Appaloosa, fast. Ain't no tellin' what kinds ah diseases those varmints could give yah with a bite." At this, Mist shrugs, and manages a small chuckle. "Hey. If I lose a leg, I lose a leg." His 'gallows humor' was not making Dusty laugh. "Ah'd prefer we keep yah in one piece, pardner. Not tah mention, we ain't got all them fancy doohikies that you city slickers have for this kind ah thing. Infection is ah serious risk when yah amputate without all them fancy medicines an such." Now, Mist didn't seem to be so casual. "Aw fuck." #rp
