The dock was partially falling apart as its years of service and life was beginning to catch up to it, but it remained intact and held together strong for the time being.
The knight was finishing placing the last of his gear inside a small, narrow wooden boat tied off to the side of the dock with a lit lantern seated at its bow. Much like the dock it had certainly seen better days, but it was without leaks and seemed to float just fine.. Hopefully it would remain that way.
Stepping inside the boat the knight gently swayed with the movement of the boat as it shifted with his weight. He reached over to the line securely tied around the log and began to undo it, slipping it free and setting himself down into the boat. Picking up the long wooden oar seated inside, he utilized it to give himself a push off the dock and began to slowly drift off into the body of the lake.
Water rippled as the bow of the boat cut through the water, gliding along its surface. He began to use the oar to push himself along through the water, finding a steady rhythm alternating between each side to keep himself going straight forward. Soon enough he found himself in the middle of the lake, surrounded by a thick layer of fog that descended upon it from the mountaintops he was headed for. The warm orange glow emitting from the lantern quickly got swallowed up, doing little in guiding his path now.
He continued forth, managing to find himself upon the lakes edge where it seemed to split off into a more narrow, winding leading outwards from the main body. He slowly floated down the trail, every so often giving himself a push or utilizing the oar to keep himself from getting too close to the shore. Numerous trees sprouted up from the ground and dangled over the water, caressing its surface and his passing armour with their long, dangling limbs.
He rose to his hooves and grabbed the lantern in front of him, holding it up and out in front of himself. He squinted his eyes as he peered around beneath his helm, trying to make out what he was drifting into but between the fog and darkness of the forest working against him it made it near impossible to see what was around him, or under him…
