Six days of trial, and still no end in sight. It wasn't uncommon for trials to take a while, but Betty always like to try to get them concluded as soon as possible. It wasn't uncommon for trials to take a while, but Betty always like to try to get them concluded as soon as possible. Of course, she wanted to win more than that, but trials were a stressful affair for all involved. Betty could tell that the employees, and families behind her at each trial were getting more, and more anxious with each day a verdict was not reached. For the poor wife, and daughter of the late Justice Dawns, it must be torture, and yet, the worst has yet to come. After six days of trial, it's finally time for Betty to call on her star witness. Hopefully with his testimony, she can break the deadlock, and swing this trial in her favor. Preferably ending it before she has to use her trump card. After getting permission from the judge, Betty approaches the witness stand, making sure to stay a respectful distance away. "Good afternoon Mr. Fuse. Would you mind stating your name, and occupation for the court?" The stallion nods. "Lightning Fuse. I'm a Master Welder who teaches Welding at Ponyville Technical College." "Thank you. Now Mr. Fuse, you were contact to perform an inspection of the Stallmart Ponyville Production Plant after the incident involving the late Mr. Dawns, correct?" "Yes ma'am. I was brought in specifically to inspect the catwalks above the heavy machinery on the production floor." "And how long after the incident did this take place?" "Only 2 days after." "Now Mr. Fuse, could you please tell the courtroom about your findings during your inspection?" "Of course. I came in around 10 AM, and they had the plant shut down while all the inspections, and investigations were going on. I was let in by some police officers, one of which who accompanied me during my inspection. I first inspected the staircases leading up to the catwalks, and found they were fairly well maintained, if a little old. Maybe, 20 or so years. So, nothing all that concerning. When I got up to the catwalk itself, I notice that the area that had broken had been blocked off. In inspected the undamaged parts of the catwalks, and found that the welds here were much less maintained than the stairwells. May have been a fair bit older too." At this point, Fuse pauses, to allow Betty to ask a question. "And did you believe there was any cause for concern with the undamaged sections of catwalk?" "Yes ma'am. It seemed like whoever had been doing the maintenance for the catwalks had mostly neglected the railings, and I found rust on some of the support beams attaching the catwalks to the ceiling." Another pause. "And were you able to inspect the damaged section of catwalk?" "Not as thoroughly as I'd have liked, but it was simply too dangerous for me to do so at the time. They hadn't been able to move the machinery, or otherwise cover it, so my ability to inspect the damaged section was limited." "What did you concluded?" "The damaged section was poorly maintained, and showed a dangerous amount of rusting in the supports. I noticed that one section of railing appeared to have broken off from the rest, and had gotten mangled inside the machinery below. From what I was able to inspect of the welds, they were clearly not strong enough to support the weight, and pressure being exerted on them. From my observations, it looked as though multiple supports, and sections of railing had snapped due to the force exerted by Justice as he was walking over that section of catwalk." "Do you believe these issues could have been noticed, and addressed earlier?" "Oh, absolutely. Frankly, I'm unsure as to why the plant's maintenance crew didn't notice, and address the issues earlier. There were many ways they could have safely replaced, or repaired the weakened segments of catwalk, given they had the appropriate equipment to do so. Though, if they didn't there are plenty of services that could be called in to fix the issues for them." "No further questions, your honor." What a stellar witness! This had to swing things into her favor! That is, unless the Stallmart team found a way to close the gap on cross-examination. That shouldn't be easy though, as Betty happens to have quite a bit of evidence that backs up everything Mr. Fuse has been saying. #rp
