It wasn’t until she looked, in her pe... View MoreCamille took a deep breath and opened her eyes. In front of her she could see beautiful skies, but that’s as far as the normalcy went. Everything else felt wrong. It wasn’t until she looked, in her perspective, up to see an ocean of water. Looking down she'd see clouds; dark grey and rolling. She couldn't move, couldn't speak, and felt gravity pulling her to the water. Instead, she fell into the clouds, and the air became choked with humidity and static. She tried to open her wings, but they didn't respond. Each cloud she hit exploded, then morphed back together once she was through. Then she broke free of the clouds and splashed into another ocean. Sinking deeper and deeper, but able to breathe. Unhindered by pressures that should have been collapsing on her. Instead she sunk into the darkness, and then back out into the lighter water. Until her hooves touched the surface from beneath. Hazed by the water, she became confused, and able to move now she’d tap on the surface like it was concrete. Confusion settled in until she looked into it. Seeing her reflection perfectly matching herself. Something changed. Camille lifted her head up to look around and found she was no longer underwater, but seemingly had switched places with her reflection. Now the clouds floated above, and the water became once-more buoyant, allow her to fall in with a splash. Camille awoke with a start, sitting up in her makeshift bed. She was drenched in sweat, mane sticking to her from the wetness. That's when she realized it was raining. Was her dream just a warning of the weather, or something greater? Was it even a dream? It fed her only confusion until the idea of falling away and sinking started to clear up. It was every pain she felt, all at once. A shiver ran down Camille’s spine and she’d drop from her bed to her hooves and head out to the one place she’d not been a while. Then again, the pony she wanted to see may not even be there. Her senses were well practiced in tracking now, though. All the bat needed to do was let out a squeak, listen, and her answer would come rushing back. After doing so, she’d take to the air. Her goal was her father. She’d fly high above before spotting Crow, landing with a stumble close by.

By the time she has bolted towards him and reached him, his arms were outstretched and open to receive her into a tight, warm embrace. He hugged her tightly against her chest as she sobbed against him quietly, his chin finding its resting place upon her head as his hoof rubbed her back up and down slowly. “Easy, easy.. Just breathe..” He whispered quietly to her. He’d only loosen his hold on her as he felt her begin to separate, first just enough to peer up at him before she pushed off him to walk in a slow circle as she spoke. He stood still, silent, just listening. “You know that’s not true. Your mother and I both love you more than anything.” He’d remind her gently, but fell silent again when she revealed what had happened. He tilted his head slightly, his cold icy eyes easing slowly.. A tender hoof would lift, nudging her chin to guide her to peer back up at him. He took her face gently, beginning to swipe away and clear her face from any tears. His own expression didn’t display any anger, or disappointment. Just a calm understanding. “Look, kiddo..” He began. “It’s a strange feeling, killing a pony. I’ve killed countless folk. So many I’ve lost count by now.. Some had it coming, but others?…” He trailed off and left it at that, continuing again after a moment. “I’ve done a lot of things I wish I could take back. I was walking on a path of self destruction, and... That only changed when I met your mother, and we had you..” He’d lean down and press a gentle kiss to her forehead before he pulled her into his chest again. “The lives we live are hard.. Sometimes, no matter what you do, things don’t always work out how you want them to. You did *everything* you could to avoid it, and they gave you no choice. They made their choice, and they killed themselves.” He’d draw back to gaze upon her again with a serious gaze, shaking his head. “It was you or them. When everything is on the line, it must *always* be them. You killed because you had no choice.” Once more his gaze would soften, speaking quietly. “You’re no murderer, or killer. You’re the best thing I’ve done and this doesn’t change a thing. You’re on your way, kiddo. I couldn’t be more proud of you.”
