View MoreAn entire day would pass before Trip Wire made any considerable progress with the pamphlet. He had tried hopelessly to pick up patterns from the message but missed the subtle changes for the most part. At one point he had grown obsessed with an image within the flyer that had nothing to do with the mystery itself and wasted several hours trying to find meaning behind a logo that had no hidden meaning at all. He had tried translating the message into several languages, he had even written it backwards to see if he could find something. He found nothing. Eventually though, he picked up on the subtle hints. Even though the flyer seemed to change, there were a few words here and there which were always the same. And so… Trip went back to the whiteboard. Another entire day went by, Trip had arranged and rearranged the words without finding meaning behind them and to no avail. The stallion had given up only 72 hours in and plopped down into his old couch to watch a mystery movie instead. Unbeknownst to him, the movie would serve to refresh his ideas. It hadn’t earlier occurred to him, but he hadn’t yet tried to use the alphabet’s order to assign numbers to each letter from the message. Once he did it, he ended up with these odd lines of numeric code. They didn’t look like anything useful. Trip sighed and planted his face against his desk, feeling like this had all been but a wild goose chase. However, on the fifth day he went back to the board and analyzed the cryptic message once more. The numbers alone made no sense whatsoever. “Maybe I’m overcomplicating this…” Trip muttered to himself, once again observing the flyer. This time he wasn’t reading between the lines though, he was actually looking at it the way a normal individual would. It was an advertisement for a pawnshop in town. Huh… Trip arched his eyebrows and wondered where that store was ubicated. It was then when it occurred to him: What if these numbers are… not just numbers? Few moments later he had retrieved an old map from a shelf, extending it over his dining room’s table which had more available space than his desk. Surprisingly, the numbers could indeed be translated into coordinates. This was a stretch of course! Either way, the coordinates weren’t leading him into the middle of the ocean or somewhere like that… they actually seemed… real? Logical? Trip couldn’t tell for sure if it was just his paranoia, but these were pointing to a very specific location, and it really did appear as though it was more than a simple coincidence. He knew what he had to do next, but hesitated… He wouldn’t actually leave the house until the 7th day. It was then when he set off to find the location indicated. He was half expecting to find nothing but an empty lot or some laundromat in the middle of nowhere. Still, he couldn’t sleep, he couldn’t eat… he needed to finish his quest! Even if he came to find that it had all been a red herring—well, at least he could give up knowing that there was nothing to be found.

The flyer itself didn't help at all as it seemed to change every now and again. Subtly. Nothing too noticeable but enough to throw one off if they were having any doubts. It was just a plain advertisements for someone's pawnshop. Why would it need to be odd after all.
