A sound Alexander had grown to familiarize himself with, but one he had grown to equally dread. A soundless call, a cry for help, a cry from none other than his very own blood. His daughter. It didn’t matter where he was, what he was doing. If he heard that call, everything was dropped and he came running. Today was no different. The call would stretch, bouncing through alleys, ascending over rooftops till it met him. He froze in place as he sat at the edge of a rooftop, his eyes widening and breath hitching in his throat. “Camille..” His boots pounded against the concrete, outstretched puddles splashing and rippling, his reflection merely a distorted blur as he barrelled past. Each time he heard this call his heart would race, adrenaline dumping through his body, his mind instantly sinking to the worst case scenario. Was she hurt? In danger? His mind spun and reeled with possibility and worry, but as he drew near his composure reeled in with deadly focus. A hoof lifted off the ground, raising high into the air in preparation to swing down upon Camille. Just as the youngsters muscles coiled and tensed to strike, a larger hoof descended upon them, snatching them up roughly by the forearm. Alexander twisted his body, using his momentum and strength to hurl them aside with little care how rough the landing would be. He grabbed the mane of another and yanked them aside before quickly side stepping, ploughing his shoulder into the side of another. He didn’t stop shoving and pulling until a gap was created between them and Camille, with Alexander now filling it. He’d look down at her and give her a nod, whispering out quietly. “I got you, sweet pea..” He’d slowly turn away to focus on the others, that warmth fading from his gaze. His icy blue eyes scanned over them all, even addressing the pegasi looming above. He’d scoff out, a look of subtle disgust spreading across his face. “Real tough. Ganging up on one..” His eyes would narrow to threatening slits, continuing, his tone subtly raising. “How ‘bout now? You pussies still like your odds?” He’d shrug his shoulders, covered in his black leather jacket. Torn, worn out and beaten up through the years of abuse it had endured. “Get lost. Don’t wanna send you punks home crying… But I will.” He’d let his words hang in the air for a moment, letting them think their next move out carefully. “Times up. I’m ’bouta start squishing.”

His shoulders were arched, eyes narrowed as they slowly scanned side to side, waiting intently for their next move. He watched them exchange looks back and forth, seeing that uncertainty behind their youthful eyes. ‘Just go’ he silently thought to himself, teeth gently clenching. He took an abrupt step forward, making a few of the ones closest to him flinch and speed up their exit, scrambling to turn and take off. It was only then did he ease, seeing them all begin to take off, not without hurling one last insult Camille’s way. “Yeah, yeah.. Keep runnin’.” Alexander muttered to himself as he shook his head, standing firm till every last one of them had taken off. Finally a breath slipped from him, his chest sinking as a sigh of relief quietly escaped him, a breath he had been holding in. Merely thankful he didn’t need to add beating up kids to his already complicated conscious. He’d turn towards Camille, stepping in close till he was knelt down before her. “Hey- I’m here now. Where does it hurt? Are you bleeding?-“ His words would be cut off by Camille leaning forward into him, pressing herself against his leather jacket. His arms would snake their way around her, holding her in close as he shook his head. “Sorry for what? You did exactly what you should have. You call, mum and I come running.” His brows would knit hearing her sob, squeezing her gently in response. “It’s because you’re different, love. That’s reason enough for some folk.” He’d loosen his grip just enough to snake a hoof up under her chin, gently lifting it to direct her gaze up to him rather than the dirt she was beaten into. He’d carefully hold her face with the same tenderness one would when handling a fragile, delicate piece of art. He’d wipe away falling tears and clean her face, speaking up softly. “They don’t understand you. They spot differences.” A small smile tugged as his face before he continued. “You got badass wings, different coloured eyes, cool lookin’ tail.. The odd one out is always the easiest to pick on.” He’d lean in and press a kiss to her forehead, letting it linger there for a moment before drawing back. “That doesn’t mean you have to compromise and bend who you are for them. They don’t like you? Wanna judge you when they don’t even know you? Fuck ‘em. They aren’t worth your time to begin with.” He’d begin to rise, gently drawing away from her. “I know who you are and I couldn’t be more proud of who you’re growing up to be, kiddo. It’s their loss.” He’d extend a hoof down towards her, smile growing. “C’mon, up outta the dirt.” Lifting a brow, he’d ask. “Hungry? Why don’t we stop by for some food, or a treat? Your call.”
