View MoreWith the plan established the knight wasted no time in beginning to move towards the new position, the pair trudging forward through the fallen snow and leaving behind their tracks in their wake. Adrenaline had begun to course through his body, heightening his awareness and senses and making him completely forget about the cold, frigid air surrounding them that was previously settling into his bones. His head remained on a swivel as they moved themselves to the base of the rocky incline, positioning himself next to the mare while she assumed a readied stance. It all seemed to come naturally to her, her posture and stance enough to tell the stallion she had knowledge of the basics but now was hardly the time to ask questions or admire. He’d reach down and draw the sword from its sheathe upon his side, the large double edged blade forged with the stallion in mind to be the perfect length and size for him to wield with brutal efficiency. His head swivelled, looking in her direction for a mere second to catch a glimpse of the wolf darting straight for her, the wind on its back. He’d pivot and turn on his hooves, covering their flanks in anticipation for an attack from another angle. He’d turn just in time to meet the gazes of two wolves barreling straight for them. He sunk his hooves into the ground and lowered himself, lifting his shield in front of his body just high enough to let his eyes peer clearly over the top of its rim. He lifted his blade and pointed it forward, resting its tip just upon the lip of the shield. He tracked the wolves movement as it neared, everything seeming to slow as he mentally measured the distance between them, and the reach of his weapon… He caught the first wolf mid lunge upon his shield and with a firm thrust of his blade he drove it through the canines torso. He’d twist his body and use its own momentum against it, hurling it away and off to the side where it landed roughly in the snow numerous feet away, staining the pure white colour with its freely flowing crimson blood. The second attacked a mere second later, leaping for the knights throat now that his shield was off centre. He’d lift his sword wielding hoof and instead sacrifice his forearm, the wolf clamping down onto the armour covered limb. A quiet grunt of pain was heard from the stallion as its fangs managed to slip between a grove in his gauntlet, allowing it to break flesh and draw his blood.

View MoreThe wolf snarled with a rumbling growl as it shook its head and sunk its canines deeper into his flesh, invigorated by the warmth of the freshly spilled blood it could taste. He stared up into the creatures fierce, beastly gaze, their eyes locking in that moment of fight for survival. He reared back his shielded arm, preparing to smash the rim of the shield across the face of the wolf when out of the corner of his eye he saw a blur of movement, hearing the shuffle of hooves pushing off the snow covered earth as the shaft of his spear came crashing down onto the creatures side. He felt its jaw loosen just enough as it choked out a pain filled whimper. He struck his shield against it and yanked his bloodied forearm free, grunting in pain and exertion as he lifted his blade above him, readying himself to dish out the killing blow. Thankfully, the wolves began to retreat back into the concealment of the greenery. He huffed, a cloud of vapour appearing in the cold air as he lowered his blade slowly. He did a slow spin to ensure they had fully retreated before he finally sheathed his blade. As the adrenaline pumping through him began to wane, the pain and throbbing he felt in his forearm because all the more noticeable. He’d lift his head to focus on the mare as he felt her eyes settle onto him. He’d merely grunt in protest, instead turning towards the wolf that had been run through by his sword. He slowly stepped towards it as he listened to its whimper. His blade had struck true, dealing a lethal blow and leaving it slowly dying in the snow, but he only wished to end its suffering and move it on to whatever may await for them on the other side. He crouched over the creature and drew his knife, using it to send it off peacefully. No more pain, no more suffering. As he felt it draw its final breath he traced his hoof through its fur, sitting with it for but a second of silence before he drew back. He’d turn back to the mare as he stepped closer, standing before her now. “Deep enough.” He muttered out her answer finally, his lips curling into a wince as he carefully slid and removed the gauntlet, simply letting it drop to the ground for now as he revealed the streaks of blood that dripped from the wound and stained his white fur. The armour had done its job in stopping most of the damage, but the wolf had managed to sink its fangs in deep.
