Ignan, of course meaning, Fire Elementals- which itself was in one of four quadrants of the same elemental plane which hosted each other major Element- but I digress." "To give some background on the whole affair; Drvidinn- the First Flame, Being the original primordial embodiment of his element- had held power over the Ignan quadrant of the Elemental Planes of his Cluster of origin since its inception, having taken part in the forming of the Cluster's Prime Material Plane upon his creation by that universe's Ao (being the formal title of a universe's Deity of Creation). Being such an important member in the way that muliplanar system works- you'd think that Drvidinn would have been blessed as a Subject Permanent- er- Immortal. So it was a surprise to the whole Ignan Quadrant when one cycle he continued to constantly diminish, like a dying fire, until even his smouldering embers extinguished themselves." "This was unprecedented- Drvidinn was the youngest and arguably the most powerful of the four Elemental Lords. His passing left a power vacuum so large that it threatened to imbalance the whole of the elemental plane until it burst its chaos into the Material. The remaining lords of Air, Earth and Water were half afraid of what would happen and half excited at the prospect of increasing their territories. Despite the usual amount of infighting that each element had the entirety of the Eternal Elemental Wars simply due to the chaos of the elemental plane, The Ignan Quadrant's forces found themselves starting to rapidly be pushed back until only the more primal corner of the plane (and its capital region), the Halo of Fire, was left to defend against the collective forces of the remaining elemental lords." "The Ignana nobility, in lieu of commanding any direction in the whole Court- devolved into squabbling masses of powergrabbing, with each of Drvidinn's remaining immediate vassals (they called themselves Dukes) being hoisted above each gathering faction to hold some political claim over the vacant seat left at their lord's passing. Every day in the Court got so vicious that one day after one of the three faction's main diplomats- a gratuer fire elemental named Smoldr- was found incapacitated in the Castle hall just off the Lounge. A stillness fell over the castle and people just started barring themselves up in seperate sections of the place, because there was a warpath that no one wanted to cross in a hurry- that of one of the leading generals- and Smoldur's brother- Cindergarr, who was trudging through the palace, melting its onyx walls as he passed through, enraged at the transgression and looking for someone to blame. He rested that blame on the Duchess Pyria- Drvidinn's Majordomo. Not exactly a bad lady, as elementals go, but she and the general had a not-so-nice history that went back-aways. It was a confrontation millennia in the making, really."
