View More//CONTENT WARNING: GRIEVOUS BODILY HARM “Heard you guys are opening for the Hearth’s Warming village tomorrow.” Asuka’s driver breaks the long silence of a slow night. In the passenger seat, Asuka smiles warmly. “Yep. Looking forward to it.” At this, her driver turns his head to give her a concerned look. “Are you sure you’re gonna be good for it though? We’re not off until 4 AM.” Asuka opens her mouth to respond, only for a tone from the radio in the ambulance cabin to interrupt her. After the tone, the voice of a dispatcher comes through. “Responder 12, urgent, teenage colt suffering from a severe laceration. Lots of blood. Victim is unresponsive, and not breathing.” As soon as the dispatcher stops, Asuka grabs the radio to respond. “10-4, show us enroute.” The lights and sirens come to life as the ambulance suddenly peels out of the parking lot it had been sat in. Thankfully for them, the streets of Ponyville are fairly empty this late. When the ambulance arrives on scene, Asuka’s partner pulls the ambulance up to the street beside a suburban home. An older stallion, likely the victim’s father, is waiting for them when they hop out. As Asuka’s driver heads to the back to grab the stretcher, the father frantically waves for Asuka to follow him. “Please hurry! My son! He-“ The man chokes on his own words, turning to lead Asuka to the backyard. In the backyard, an older mare sits on her knees, cradling a teenage colt in her arms. Both she, the colt, and the ground around them are… Dear Solaris, that’s… that’s too much blood. That can’t be from one person. The mare whispers soft comforts to the colt, clearly in shock. Asuka hurries to the colt, the father following. As she kneels down to assess the colt’s injuries, the mare lets out a banshee like shriek. She recoils away from Asuka, suddenly in hysterics. “No!” She screams. “No! You can’t take him yet! You can’t take my baby!” With the way she’s looking at Asuka, she’s not sure the mare even realizes who she is. The father quickly wraps his wife into his arms, trying to calm her, and reassure her. “She’s a paramedic! It’s okay!” Asuka rips open her medical bag, and immediately begins treatment. A quick check of the colt’s vitals are grim. He’s not breathing, and his heartbeat is shallow. There’s a deep gash across his chest. With the amount of blood he’s lost, his chances of survival are slim. Very slim. Grim determination sets in. The shrieking of the mother, and words of the father blur into static as Asuka does everything she can to patch up the gash. As soon as her driver arrives with the stretcher, they load the colt onto it, and rush him to the ambulance. Racing down the streets of Ponyville with lights and sirens blaring, Asuka works feverishly. Fighting against all odds to save this colt’s life. The ride to the hospital is a blur. When they arrive, a team of nurses are waiting. They take the stretcher, and rush the colt into the ER. It’s out of Asuka’s hands now. Slumping into her seat in the ambulance’s cabin, Asuka takes a deep breath, and exhales. Her driver looks genuinely shaken up, but Asuka just feels… numb. She’s been through stuff like this so many times, that she’s become desensitized to it all. The blood, the shock, the screams. It’s all just a part of the job now. Asuka catches herself staring into the distance. She turns her head, and places a hand on her driver’s shoulder. “Hey. We did what we could. Don’t let it eat you up.” Smooth, Asuka. Real comforting. Ah what the hell. She’s a paramedic, not a psychologist. Asuka’s driver gives her a thankful smile, but does not respond. It’s going to be a rough night. #rp
