"One was KIA, one is missing, one retired, and ran off into the woods, and the leader was diagnosed with a terminal mental illness. I want you to find out just what the hell happened on December ninth, and how we lost the entirety of our Rapid Magic Response Team." The chief's words ring in the ears of the lieutenant sitting across from him. Finding out what happened to the RMRT over half a year ago was a tall order, considering the circumstances of that night.
"I can't guarantee anything sir, but I'll cobble up our best, and we'll look into it." The lieutenant responds. The chief nods. "Good. I want regular updates from you Lieutenant. We need to know why one of our most specialized units is out of service." At this, the lieutenant stands, salutes, and leaves the office. Once he's far enough away, the lieutenant heaves a sigh. "Damn. Couldn't have given the job to someone else huh?" Another sigh. "Guess this is what I get for my good luck as a detective." #rp

View MoreEach day slogged by, and Dreaming Aegis couldn't stand it. She and her comrades in the Las Pegasus Police Demartment's Rapid Magic Response Team had known something big was going to happen any day now. Yet nothing had occurred for 5 months. They worked tirelessly to try and figure out what was going to happen so they could preempt it, but all of their trails always ended up being dead ends.
Aegis pulls up her right sleeve to look at the mechanical foreleg that the Primus had gifted her. She'd delved into its realm of order and law nearly 2 years ago, and since then she's been a paragon of its values in the Material Plane. Yet despite all of her work, foiling criminals, disbanding cults, and even busting a few corrupt official's plots to use magic for their own gain, her largest target always eluded her. For years now the RMRT had been on the trail of the infamous "Unicorn Killer". A stallion who proclaimed himself to be the "strongest unicorn in Equestria", and he'd convinced everyone in Las Pegasus that it was a fact. Innocent civilians murdered in cold blood, just for possessing a horn. Government officials assassinated in their own homes. Putting an entire magic school on lockdown for a full month with just one letter. He was a menace, and he needed to be stopped.
Yet above all of the other reasons, there was one glaring issue that made his capture of top priority. He claimed to have "big plans" for Equestria, and all the clues the RMRT had gathered pointed to an event of mass destruction. They couldn't just make this knowledge public, or it could cause mass hysteria. They've been working with the "Equestrian Society to Protect Magic" for some time now, but what they really needed was support from Canterlot Castle itself. Wizards, and magic users who could provide them with much needed knowledge, experience, and expertise.
Aegis looks to the cloudy afternoon sky, and begins to wonder just how much longer she'd be able to do such a thing.
An alert tone from her radio brings her attention downwards. As she picks up her radio, the voice of the RMRT's eldest member, Buffly Hagglesworn comes over the radio. He sounds calm, but urgent.
"He's making his move. He's headed east, just south of the interstate. I'll put up a marker to guide you all when he finally stops."
So, today's the day huh? Aegis takes a deep breath, and breaks out into a sprint eastward towards the interstate.
Now, they either stop this infamous murderer, or it's likely hundreds of thousands would die. #rp

Telling her to keep searching, and find the components for the spell. Each tick is a reminder of the little time she has left being wasted. If only the clock was willing to actually help her find the components.
The modrons watch Aegis from all around the library. They stand behind bookshelves, sit on tables, and idly wander, observing the spines of the many books and tomes the ancient library housed. Should Aegis command, they would move at a moment's notice. They knew the importance of the quest Aegis was on. Yet she uttered no commands. No plan of action. Only incoherent mutterings as she paced around the grandfather clock.
Time ticks away, and the city inches ever closer to disaster.

Hardly use this character anymore. But some art I commissioned a while back was recently finished.

Yet now here she finds herself face to face with the litch once more. He hardly even acknowledges her when she arrives at the scene. Jonathan's servants keep a cordon around their master as he shouts his challenge throughout the streets of Las Pegasus.
"Unicorn Killer! Come out! Face me!"
As Jonathan roams the streets with his mob of undead, Arcana trails him, and reports his position to dispatch to help organize evacuations in his route. She'd already found two officers tied up next to their squad car. She didn't want to risk anything worse happening to someone else. Arcana begins to cast sending to call her team members for backup when a voice breaks her concentration.
"I'm here litch. What are you screaming about?"
When Arcana turns to see who's spoken, she's frozen with an unnatural fear. For the first time in her life, Arcana sees him. The man she'd been tracking for her whole career. The man who'd killed countless innocents. The man who took her husband from her. The Unicorn Killer.
She can hardly hear what the two stallions say to each other, but she averts her eyes, and attempts to cast sending to Buffley once more.
'Buffely. He's here. I need backup on 14th and Broad.'
The response is swift.
'We're on our way. Avoid direct confrontation until we get there.'
Arcana's focus is ripped away from the message as the air in front of her is lit by near-blinding lights. 4 rays of pure radiant energy tear through Jonathan's servants, and bathe the necromance in light. This is bad. VERY bad. Arcana radios to dispatch to evacuate the area within 3 miles of the site. A duel among powerful casters was not to be underestimated. #rp

He'd forgotten all about just how bright the city could get. After spending so long in the dark, it took time for his eyes to adjust. He believed his eyes would likely be in pain if it wasn't for his current condition.
Behind Jonathan shambled a crowd of undead. Some possibly hundreds of years passed, and others far more recent. He could hear the panic of the city's denizens long before he saw them. It was only natural. After all, it wasn't a common occurrence for a litch to lead his army personally. Though they didn't know it, they needn't worry. He wasn't here to take over, or enslave. No. He had a far less sinister goal in mind.
Jonathan watches as a police squad car pulls up a block away from his procession. He lifts a hoof, and his servants lurch forwards towards the poor officers. Shots ring out, and 2 of his servants fall, but the others are able to reach the car. After desperate struggling by the two officers Jonathan's undead servants manage to disarm the officers, and render them unconscious. The two are then tied up, and left by their car. There would be others to pick them up later. For now, Jonathan had much bigger things to deal with. Namely, the bastard who took his life. #rp

Today was different. For the first time in months Aegis was back out on the streets running patrols. Her team mates were busy tracking down a serial killer, and out of the team she was the best suited to respond to emergency situations.
While passing by a crowded casino Aegis' radio crackles to life to inform her of a rapidly developing situation in another casino 4 blocks away. She informs the dispatcher of her location, and that she'll be responding to the call. She arrives rather quickly to find a blockade set up around said casino by police units. Before she can even ask about the situation a Sargent approaches her. "Sargent. We've got a rapidly developing hostage situation on our hands. Four suspects have taken around 40 civilians hostage in a vault inside the building. Through communication we figure they can see us from inside the vault. Possibly through security cameras."
Aegis gives a simple nod, but she's not so sure about the security camera idea. She approaches the building, stopping 20 feet from the entrance. A negotiator calls out to her from behind a squad car. The suspects know she's making her way towards the building. Any closer, and they'll kill a civilian. Aegis calmly kneels as she begins to cast a spell. The negotiator once again calls out to warn her, but she doesn't respond. Instead Aegis stands after 30 seconds, and backs away from the casino. She'd cast Detect Magic, and from what she'd seen there was divination magic surrounding the whole casino. So the suspects were scrying on them hm? A simple fix. After returning to the blockade Aegis shares her finding with the other Sargent.
Upon the arrival of a tactical team Aegis gathers them together, and casts nondetection on the team, as well as herself. Now the suspects wouldn't be able to scry on them. To test if the spell worked Aegis walks up to the front door. No warning from the negotiator. She then motions to the team to prepare. Once they were ready, they'd be entering the building. #rp

The sound of the grandfather clock has been distracting Arcana for quite some time now. She's been trying to study in the RMRT's library for a few hours now, but her mind keeps wandering off to the ticking. Maybe she's just tired. After all, it's been a long few months. When you're dealing with cults, litches, and magical serial killers all at once people tend to get tired, and stressed. Her team really needed a vacation, but that clearly wouldn't be happening any time soon.
Gah. If only she could stop focusing on the grandfather clock, and finish her studies.
Tick. Tock. Tock. Tock.

Arcana looks up from her book. She swears the clock is starting to tick faster. She listens to the clock as it continues to speed up. She's not sure how long it takes before the bells begin to chime. The clock dings twelve despite it only being 10 PM. On the twelfth chime, the window to the inner workings of the clock opens to reveal a landscape made almost entirely of clockwork. Arcana rubs her eyes. Surely this can't be real.
A hoof emerges from the grandfather clock. Out steps a mare. A large gear hovers above her back, and she emits a noticeable ticking sound. Once she's fully through the clock the landscape fades, as well as the ticking, and gear.
Arcana is stunned. "Aegis?"
"I'm sorry I was gone for so long Master Mithrum. I hope my absence hasn't caused any trouble."

No attacks from the Unicorn Killer, and no evidence to suggest he was planning something big. The Children of the Archangel dissolved after their figurehead 'ascended to the heavens', and their leaders willingly turned themselves in. Supposedly their figurehead was disgusted with their actions for an unknown reason. Now every night was just Arcana looking for drunken spell slinging unicorns.
When she saw a stallion having a mental breakdown under a street lamp she almost assumed he was under the influence. The red eyes, and constant stream of tears she saw when he looked up at her said otherwise. The man stumbles over to Arcana, and nearly collapses onto her. His speech is drowned underneath a series of sobs, and wails. "My wife! They took my wife!" Arcana speaks firmly, but does not demand. "Sir. I need you to calm down ever so slightly, and elaborate for me. Who took your wife, and where have they taken her?" The man screams, trying his best to be clear. "The zombies! They took her down Hallaway Street!" Arcana blinks twice. Was this some sort of October joke? If so, he was being very convincing. "The.. zombies?" The man's screams slowly return to sobs. "Yes! They took her! They're going to kill my wife! Please!" Arcana rests a hoof on the man's shoulder. "Don't worry sir. I'll go check it out."
Arcana notifies dispatch of the stallion so an ambulance can pick him up, and heads west to Hallaway Street. It doesn't take long before she can hear screams. "NO! LET ME GO! HELP!" A mare screams in desperation. Arcana can't hear any sort of struggling from her current location. She begins to sprint, taking a sharp left onto Hallaway street. She sees a few figures standing in front of another. 4 appear to be pinning the screaming mare to the street, with the 5th figure dressed in fine robes holding a spellbook in the air. She can see bits of the figure's skull barely holding pockets of old flesh. "Do not be afraid. I do not wish to harm you. I'm going to free you from your fear of mortality." The figure speaks softly, but his voice is decrepit, and ghastly.
Arcana prepares a spell, and shouts. "Halt! Las Pegasus Police!" This elicits screams for help from the mare on the ground. The robed figure pauses, and turns. His one eye swiveling to meet Arana's two. The visage sends a chill down Arcana's spine. She'd heard the stories of litches before, but never had she thought she'd see one in person. The litch almost seems to smile.
"Ah, Arcana my sweet. We can finally be re-united."
