He could just w... View MoreAfter a long day of making deliveries Nar is very much ready for some rest and relaxation. Cookie is spending the week with her grandparents, so couch cuddles are out of the question. He could just watch a movie or something at home, but Nar really wants some company at the moment. Even if it’s just other people around him without including him in their conversation. Asuka has a 4 AM shift tomorrow, so she’s out. Juno is also asleep, so he’s out. Autumn’s busy, and hundreds of miles away. Nar hasn’t seen Sprout in months now, so he’s can’t go looking for her. His fault really. He hasn’t exactly made an effort to reach out to her since Cookie started school. Go out to eat? Well, most places in Ponyville close at like, 9. There is one bar that’s open till 12 though. Might as well head there. The moment Nar opens the door to the bar he hears one of his favorite bands, the Old 97’s playing on the jukebox. Oh yeah, this was gonna be a good night. He gives the bartender, and the few patrons a wave in greeting, then orders himself a snack, and a non-alcoholic beverage. Afterwards, he slides up onto a seat at the counter to watch a recorded baseball game on a TV behind the bar. “Whell ah’ll be!” A deep, country voice exclaims in surprise. Nar turns in his chair to see a tall, strong looking earth pony approaching him from the table he’s been sitting at. Instantly, Nar recognizes his old teammate. “If it ain’t Nar!” Nar opens his mouth to respond, only for a massive hand to slap all his back. All the air leaves his lungs for a moment. After taking a breath, Nar finally manages to respond. “Red! It’s good to see you man!” The two clasp hands, and pull each other into a one armed hug. They clap each others backs, then Red slides into the seat next to Nar. The two get right to catching up. Nar tells Red about Cookie, the band, and his girlfriend. In return, Red tells him about him taking over his family farm, getting engaged, and his new part-time gig as an agriculture teacher at Ponyville High. A little ways into the night, Red leans on the counter. “Y’know.” He begins. “High school’s lookin’ fer ah new coach fer tha hockey team.” Nar nearly spits his drink out. “No way! Did coach Flurry finally retire?!” Red nods. “Stubborn ol’ coot held on as long as he could, but the last few seasons’ve been pretty darn bad fer the team. Ain’t had a playoff run since our run in 16. School wants tag cut the team entirely, but the parents convinced ‘em to give ‘em a chance.” He thrusts a finger towards Nar. A friendly smile on his lips. “You were always the brain of tha team back in the day. Why don’t you give it a shot?” Nar shrugs. “Coaching was never really my thing. I just had good game sense, you know?” Red chuckles. “Better’n Flurry was givin’ em the last few years! G’wan Straw head! Ah say give it ah shot!” Nar tilts his head for a moment before responding. “I’ll think about it.” With that, the two friends say their goodbyes, and part for the night as the bar closes. On the way home, Nar reminisces about his time with the Ponyville High Hockey team. By the time he gets home, his mind is made up. He’s gonna try out for that coaching position. #rp
