View MoreThis morning, Nar received a call from the Ponyville District Attorney's office. There's been a development in the case they've asked him to provide expert testimony for, and he's needed as soon as possible. The 19 year old man who's disappearance started this whole case has shown back up, but is currently in Ponyville General hospital. Apparently, he had an incident with paramedics after his re-appearance, and ended up getting shot by police when he discharged a firearm he had on his person. The hospital staff say he's in stable condition, but is experiencing some sort of mental break that their psychiatrists have been unable to diagnose. Stepping out of his car in the hospital parking lot, Nar is met by one of the DA's staff, who is there to witness Nar's visit for the case. The two enter, and are directed to the room in which Mr. Hays is in. When they arrive, a nurse is waiting for them, to accompany them during their visit. Approaching the door, Nar can hear a voice on the other end. It's slightly muffled, but he can hear the distress, and rapid change in tone in it through the door. This... This doesn't bode well. Taking a deep breath, Nar watches the nurse open the door, and follows her inside the room. A young man lays restrained to the bed. He rambles in a quiet voice, while an older mare sits in a chair beside him. She's obviously quite distraught, and clearly hasn't gotten any sleep recently. When Nar, and the paralegal step into the room, her mood seems to lift slightly. No, please don't get your hopes up. Don't make me crush them like this, Miss Hays. The nurse explains situation to Nar, and the paralegal. She politely requests that neither of the two record the meeting, as per patient privacy laws. Both acknowledge, then Nar is given a seat to assess the young man. His eyes seem to dart around the room, as if trying to pay attention to a dozen different things at once. He rambles in a manner that seems incoherent at first, but after some time listening, Nar picks up on him trying to string together sentences. He begins one sentence, only to string into a completely different one partway through, and end on a completely different sentence. He doesn't need to examine any further to know what's going on here. He experienced exactly what the young man is himself once before. Only, Nar had an all powerful jerkass to pull him out of it. "He's in the last stage of Astral Deficiency Syndrome. Right now, his mind is scattered in a thousand different pieces across the Astral Highway System. He's experiencing countless different experiences, memories, and hallucinations all at once. His body is trying to react to each, and every one of them at the same time. Hence the erratic movement, and seeming word salad." There's a pause. It's uncomfortably long. With no sign of anyone else speaking up, Nar continues. His attention is now solely focused on the man's mother. "There is no treatment, and there is no cure. Your son will be like this for as long as he still lives." Then, Nar closes his eyes for a moment, and takes a deep breath to gather his courage. He REALLY doesn't want to say this, but it has to be said. Behind him, the nurse seems to know what's coming. She begins to step past Nar in order to stand by the mother. "Ms. Hays. If you love your son... You'll let the doctors end his suffering." The hope in Ms. Hay's eyes had been slowly dying as Nar's assessment proceeded, but his words are the straw that crush it entirely. The older mare lets out a wail of despair, throwing herself over the side of the bed, and onto her son. Nar's heart shatters into a million tiny pieces inside, but he does his best to not let it show on the outside. Instead, he softens his expression, and gives Ms. Hays quiet condolences. "I'm sorry." In the corner of the room, a pair of faces stare at him with indecipherable expressions. The nurse quietly motions for the two visitors to leave. Both do so without a word. Fuck. That was... That was heavy. Nar's going to need some extra Cookie cuddles to lift his mood after that. #rp
